Celcom Axiata launches BlackBerry Storm2 9520 at RM888 for first 150 customers

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 Feb, 2010: Celcom Axiata (CA) launched the Blackberry Storm2 9520 with a big bang at the Chinoz Restaurant in Suria KLCC and rewarded its first 150 customers with a special price RM888 versus RM1,988 normally.

Crowds began lining up outside Chinoz from 2.30pm to take advantage for the special available from 4.30pm to 10.00pm today.

With this, CA is Malaysia's first telco to launch the BlackBerry Storm2 9520 and it is expanding its BlackBerry customer base from the corporate into the consumer space, with an especial focus on the youth segment.

The device sports lifestyle features such as 3.2 megapixels camera, music and video player, 7.2 Mb/s HSDPA, HSUPA and WiFi b & g connectivity, simple GPS navigation with maps, full sized capacitive touchscreen with kinetic scrolling, SurePress and SureType technology for error free typing and more, besides its core push e-mail function.

 

“We are trying to reposition the BlackBerry brand from a business phone to a device suited for the mass retail market,” said CA chief marketing officer, Chee Pok Jin.

“Currently holding 52% market share of the BlackBerry segment in Malaysia, we provide flexible plans with affordable and reliable Voice, Email, Instant Messaging and Social Networking communications, to accommodate our customers’ varying mobile lifestyle needs,” he added.

Also, Celcom plans to introduce the BlackBerry Apps World app store for customers to download over 10,000 applications into their BlackBerry smartphones. The app store is expectd to be here in June 2010.
