In playing its part to help Malaysia achieve 50% broadband penetration by the end of the year, on 4 August, Celcom Axiata launched three new mobile wireless broadband plans, with prices starting from as low as RM48 per month versus RM68 previously and it also comes with a free USB modem. However, they must pay RM100 one-time registration fee.
Those who sign up by the end of August will also enjoy an RM10 monthly rebate off their package price for a period of three months. There is no binding contract and users who terminate the service after 7-days get to keep the modem.
The Entry package which costs RM48 per month supports download speeds up to 384Kbps with 1GB monthly fair usage quota, the Basic package costing RM68 per month supports download speeds up to 512Kbps with 3GB quota, while the Advance package costing RM98 per month supports up to 3.6Mbps with 5GB monthly quota.
Celcom will throttle the speed of accounts which have exceeded the quota down to 128 Kbps for the rest of the month, though subscribers are also can opt to pay an additional RM15 for an additional gigabyte or RM50 for another 5GB and have their package speed restored.
Also, the good news for existing Celcom broadband subscribers, especially those on the D68 plan, is that their speed has been upgraded from 384 to 512Kbps while they continue to pay RM68 per month but still enjoy the same 5GB monthly quota. D98 plan subscribers will continue to pay RM98 per month for up to 3.6Mbps with 5GB quota. This plan is identical to the Advance Package.
