Confirming a long anticipated plan, Google has announced its mobile strategy and a broad alliance of leading technology and wireless companies have joined their open platform. The announcement of Android, the Google mobile operating system is sure to shake up the mobile landscape in coming years.

The GSM Association (GSMA) hopes to work with government agencies like the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), and relevant ministries to reach out to the Malaysian mobile innovator community.

Contrary to public perception, mobile developers have plenty of options for funding.

O2 has decided to give up its mobile devices business in Asia and a management buyout has been agreed. Telefónica O2 Europe, O2 Asia’s European parent, decided that its device business in Asia, which is based in Singapore, was a non core asset following a strategic review. The current management team in Asia has established a company that will be known as Mobile and Wireless Group (MWG) and based in Singapore.
