Pimp Your Phone the Soft Approach Way
- MW Team
Image I like to be different, often spending an obscene amount of time customizing my personal belongings. The most apparent customization is my computer which I spent almost 10 hours daily on it. (I know, I’m a geek!)

Customization done ranged from hand picking my hardware components, to the appearance of the unit and even the software interface. Whenever I’m using my own computer, I feel right at home, tranquillized and relax. Besides, there is also the element of pretentiously showing off my ‘toy’ to gather some ‘’wow’ and ‘ah’ which makes me proud.

Same goes for the phone; change its housing, pick a nice theme and download some catchy ring tones. It won’t be the newest and most expensive but it certainly is unique in my point of view.

Personal Medicine Man on Your Phone
- MW Team
Maybe it is the sudden change of weather; gulping down too much of CNY goodies, the change of life tempo from sedentary holidays back to an enormous work load and pressure; or maybe it was just the traffic jam. Whatever it was, I fell sick. First it was some coughing, followed by diarrhea and then the grand finale of high fever.

I was given 3 days of medical leave to rot at home and bags of medicine to replace my CNY snacks, poor me. One thing I found cumbersome was taking my medication as instructed. There was some to be taken after meals; some half an hour before and also an antiseptic solution to gargle with. That got me thinking that it would be great if there was an application to remind me of all these medication intervals.

Trivial Applications
- MW Team
Normally when I introduce an application in Soft Approach, I usually start off with some personal experience or some background knowledge. But not this time; since we will be looking into trivial applications, and I mean really trivial applications. Some of them are just good for a laughs; others to pull a prank; and a few with insignificant functionality or usage. Trivial they may be but most of them are not free; apparently even jokes and happiness requires serious money these days.

Doing Math on Phone
- C.D. Han
If you need to do Math in your job, try doing it on your mobile phone. Image

To me the calculator is one of the greatest inventions of the century; I can barely live a day without it. This is because my job requires me to take in figures and chunk out results almost immediately and I suck in mental calculation. My good old Casio fx-570MS is always firmly placed in the office bag and follows me almost everywhere. On the few occasions that it’s not near me, my smartphone will have to kick in as a substitute.

The proprietary built in calculator function however provides me with limited mathematics operations which require a great deal of key strokes. How frustrating! But all of that has become history. With the installation of advanced software, my smartphone is truly smart. Behold!

Widget's Wizardry
- MW Team
Image I ran out of ideas for this month’s Soft Approach review. My brain refused to crank up, probably due to the Hari Raya break.
