Sony Ericsson is touting, or at
least their supporters are, the upcoming new K660 as some phone apt for the Web
generation, mainly the young and hip.
These punters’ interests would certainly be stoked by its special web
features. There are dedicated shortcut keys for easy surfing, especially when
you can move around a web site as you would with a PC mouse. You can blog your
pictures and video directly and very fast via HSPDA broadband speed. And just as swiftly you can zoom in on Google
maps. The 2-inch display is web optimized to display in landscape mode. Media facilites include FM radio and a 2MP
camera. Onboard memory is small, just 32MB.
You’ll need a Memory Stick, up to 4GB, if you can get one. It’s not really a smartphone but as it’s
running J2ME Platform (JSR 75) you can install PDA-like applications. And the Java graphics is 3D. That should go down well with games.

Sony Ericsson W380

Also in tandem with the W890’s
release is the W380, with lesser memory (512MB) and lens resolution (1.3MP) but
with one step longer digital zooming at 4 times, a little heavier and thicker.
But most of the other features or facilities are about the same. Of course, this one won’t have 3G or HSDPA,
just normal GSM,GPRS and EDGE. The
display is just a bit smaller at 1.9 inches, but you get a second screen, even
if it’s just OLED, on the other side of the flip cover. Something cool: do hand gestures to off the
alarm and mute calls.

Sony Ericsson W890

It’s like carrying a CD case around
– just as thin - except that the forthcoming – early next year – W890 is about
half the width and you can easily wrap you hand around it. As per expected from a Walkman phone you get
all the cool music facilities when it’s the latest Walkman player. Manipulating
song list and play in Version 3.0 is now
simpler and more intuitive, with just a single click. And you can also view the
album art. With 2GB of memory you’d have
tons of space to store any kind of music, up to 1800 songs, for any kind of mood
for SensMe to pick to suit your moods. Adding
more songs is ultra fast via HSDPA connection.
Shooting images is at 3.2 MP.

Samsung SPH-M4650

Another Korean smartie in the
form of SPH-M4650 also allows screen touching as it runs Windows Mobile 6
Pro. However, this one is one better
with vibration touch or haptic feedback.
Needless to say, it connects very fast with 3G. The screen is also 2.8 inches, QVGA, quite
respectable even for viewing DMB mobile TV programs. It entertains with all the usual multimedia,
takes pictures in 2 MP, and has enough memory at 256MB. All these features are
squashed neatly into a very slim 14mm thickness. There is no slider for any QWERTY or other
keyboard, just touch keys on the screen.

LG LG-KS20

If some smartphones are still not
letting you touch their screens for menu, you’d have resort to one that does –
LG’s LG-KS20. If you still remember the
Prada, well, this model looks much like it, except that it runs the
Professional version of Windows Mobile 6.
The display is so large, at 2.8 inches, as is the memory of 128MB. Also the camera resolution is quite high, at
2 MP. This 3G phone is bundled with all
the media goodies of MP3 play, video call, FM radio and TV out, together with
the wireless pair of Wifi and Bluetooth.
Besides calling, texting and emailing, it also does email push.
