Compact connectivity companion on the road
Cellular-USB modems are popular especially among notebook and netbook
users and they have shrunk in size over the last couple of years to
that of a USB dongle. The Blue Cube 3.5G USB modem (Limited Gold
Edition) is one such modem of such size and as you will see it does
come in pretty handy.
Design
The Limited Gold Edition reviewed here resembles a rather stylish-looking WiFi dongle with its glossy black hard plastic case and gold trim. Actually when compared to some of the 3.5G modem on the market the Limited Gold Edition isn’t exactly what you call small. However there is a reason for this as it has a microSD card slot on the modem.
Features
Besides HSDPA and UMTS, it also works over 900/1800/1900 MHz GSM,GPRS and EDGE networks.
It’s pretty simple and straightforward to use once it’s installed and you can either use it to connect to the Internet or if you are familiar with the dialling string user ID and password for your operator, you can configure and use a Windows’ Dial Up Networking connection based on the HSPA modem which already be in to your list and Dial Up Networking proved to be a faster way to get connected.
Like I said before the Limited Gold Edition can be used as a USB drive as well thanks to its microSD support and this works even while the modem is online. To add to its value, it comes with a 2GB micro SD card and accepts up to 4GB.
Overview
Like most USB modem, the Limited Gold Edition is plug-and-play, is easy to use with a Windows PC. Should you need a good 3.5G modem with the ability to store data well you can’t really go wrong with the Blue Cube 3.5G Modem Limited Gold Edition.
