Image REDtone has successfully launched its WiMAX service in Kota Kinabalu business district, offering high speed internet access for enterprises.
It signed an agreement with Motorola Electronics Sdn Bhd as its technology partner.

"Motorola has extensive WiMAX experience; its system is easy to set up and requires minimum installation footprint, which in the process helps reduce deployment time and lowers overall operational cost.

We are also impressed by Motorola's ability to provide advanced features like MIMO-B in a live system. These features will ensure a smooth network upgrade when we need to increase system capacity in the future." said group CEO of REDtone International Zainal Amanshah in an online report.

REDtone's WiMAX packages for corporate customers start from RM588 per month for 1 Mbps shared connection.

Packages with premium dedicated lines start from RM2,488 per month for 1Mbps, RM3,388 for 1.5Mbps and RM4,288 for 2 Mbps.

REDtone said it was looking to sign up 500 customers from the corporate and SME segments within six months.

The company plans to offer the WiMAX service to the consumer in big way from late-2009 when 2.3Ghz WiMAX devices are widely available.

Early this week, Packet One made into the Malaysia Book of Records for launching the first commercial WiMAX service in the country.
