Packet One Networks (P1) revealed last week its selected
WiMAX coverage areas in the Klang Valley and also introduced Malaysia’s first 10 paying
subscribers.
“We have been working relentlessly over the last 16 months,
testing the technology, deploying the network, forming alliances, creating
WiMAX devices and tweaking customer service to ensure end-to-end user
experience is one of the highest quality, technologically and humanly
possible,” said P1’s CEO, Michael Lai.
The current P1 WiMAX coverage areas include KLCC, Golden
Triangle, Pekeliling, Setapak, Gombak, Seri Rampai, Sentul, Pudu, selected
areas in Subang Jaya, USJ 1, USJ 7 and Subang Hi-Tech area.
According to P1, users living in the WiMAX coverage areas
will be able to register and try P1 WiMAX for free. The trial user has an
option to use the services with a monthly fee after a 14 days trial period. P1
however decline to reveal any details on the monthly fee being imposed
currently.
By the end of 2008, P1 targets to extend its WiMAX coverage
area to Petaling Jaya, Damansara, Klang, Port Klang, Johor Bahru, Kedah, Perak,
Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and all major towns and cities in the west coast of
Peninsular Malaysia.
Michael Lai said that MCMC requires the four WiMAX operators
to have at least 25% coverage of the areas they are assigned by March 2009. He
said that P1 has an internal target to achieve the MCMC target by the end of
this year.
P1 is expected to commercially roll out the WiMAX services
within the next couple of weeks.
A new USB WiMAX modem will be introduced in Q4 2008 for
mobile users on the move.
