Formerly codenamed Montevina, the latest Centrino 2 processor technology is finally out and bringing even higher performance to notebooks. During the launch, ten vendors including Acer, Lenovo, HP, Fujitsu and BenQ also showed off their products bearing Intel’s latest offering.

The platform consists of an Intel Core 2 Duo / Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme processor, Mobile Intel 45 Express Chipset, Intel WiFi Link 5000 series and Intel 82567 Gigabit Network Connection.

More importantly the Centrino 2 allows your notebook to play Blu-ray movies on a single charge, longer battery life, thinner form factor, cooler machines and wireless Draft-N with WiMAX arriving later this year.

Intel also announced that eight processors will be unveiled within 90 days including the first-ever mobile quad core products and second generation products for ultra thin notebooks. In total you should be seeing about 14 new processors for the notebook market.

Ryaz Patel, Country Manager Sales & Marketing, Intel Malaysia also squashed rumours of any Centrino 2 platform shortage.
