What kind of phone do you own?
I own a HTC Touch Dual. It’s great at helping me organise my daily events.
Which phone are you eyeing next?
Well, I have always eyed the Nokia N95 but I think I will stick to the Touch Dual for a while.
Any mishaps happened to any of your phones?
Other than your standard drops on the floor occasionally, nothing too horrible. The most is a virus which happened a few years ago which wiped out my phone book. As you know, losing 300 numbers is rather painful.
That indicates your phone is important to you. Just how important is it?
Pretty important, I store a lot of information on my phone. I’ve got notes, to do’s, events and especially phone numbers on my phone. It’s like my personal assistant.
What other gadgets do you own?
I have a PlayStation, a virtual DJ console and a lot of minor gadgets all around the house.
Do you give out your mobile numbers to eager fans?
I try not to. I had a few bad experiences with it where I would get messages in the middle of the night. Worst still is when I am on air and they ask for songs and stuff. But if I become a friend then by all means you can have it.
How many contacts do you have in your phone book?
Wow! I just checked. Four hundred and eighty nine! Of course a good 5 percent I can’t remember who they are because I have had numbers for the last 8 years.
On average how many SMS do you send a day?
About five to ten depending on the day.
Have you been scammed via SMS?
Well, I am very cautious with text messages that I receive and usually don’t buy into things like winning 1 billion dollars by replying to an SMS.
Do you accessorize your phone?
No, not really. I usually just buy a good cover for it. But a long time ago I bought an extremely bright banana yellow casing for my phone. My friends and colleagues hated it but I loved it!
Are you into downloading mobile content?
Not really, unless it’s an application that might make my life easier.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Well, I am a pretty simple guy. What you hear of me on Mix FM is generally the way I am. I like hanging out with a small group of close friends. I spend my days online and playing my PlayStation. Or hanging out with the guys in a mamak and playing foosball. If you hang out in Sri Hartamas in a place called Breakers you might see me playing foosball.
How long has it been in the radio industry and how did you get started?
Well, I started almost four years ago when I won a DJ search by hitz.fm. It was always my dream to go on radio because I think I got a good witty personality without a face to match (laughs). But it’s been great. Ever since I started doing The Breakfast Show on Mix FM I have been having a blast. When I meet people at events and on the streets and they tell me that I make them laugh, it makes the job a million times better.
What are the challenges of doing a morning radio show?
It’s definitely the waking up and then trying to be witty, funny, happy and knowledgeable when your brain is still asleep. Also not making your voice sound sleepy. It’s challenging especially having three people on air at the same time and having everything we say gel. I guess the most challenging is consistently staying funny.
What kind of music are you into?
I love hip hop and R&B. I deejay in clubs every so often and I love playing my old skool hip hop. Of late I started to like some house music. But the old skool R&B is where my heart is.
Any experiences with weird fans?
I have had two stalkers but they are gone now. I had one fan come up to me in a mamak and pulled up a seat next to me and started talking to me like he was my oldest friend. Now it would be ok if he stayed for like two or three minutes but he ordered his food and joined us for the rest of the night. And there was this one guy who snail mailed me his birth cert, college certs, IC, his photos and a CD for Christmas. Needless to say I sent everything back with a thank you note.
What do you look forward to do in the future?
I would love to run a radio station and train deejays. I love teaching. I think the radio world is a fascinating world. You don’t realise how one word effects millions and sometimes we take it for granted.
Let’s talk about internet lifestyle for a while. You seem to be a keen surfer.
I love my internet. I surf everyday. I have all the major networking programs. i.e. Facebook, Friendster, MySpace and I blog. I also keep in touch with a lot of friends on MSN. It’s so hard to meet up with everyone these days and the internet becomes a good meeting ground.
How’s your blog doing?
I blog at www.pietrofelix.blogspot.com and it’s doing great. Although I haven’t really blogged much in the last few months. But it helps my friends and my sis who is in China know what’s going on in my life. It also helps give the listeners of Mix FM an insight to our lives and realise that we are just normal people leading mundane lives.
Lastly, how do you unwind after a long day at work?
Sleep, movies, playing my football manager games or a good session of Guitar Hero on the PlayStation.
