This year proved daunting for us to keep track of the goodies that were dished out at this year's CommunicAsia, because there are so many. Here's our short round-up on gadgets seen and heard on the showroom floor.

Sneak peek into Android

Image The top secret Android platform was shown by Andy Rubin, Head of Android in Google, using an unknown touch phone (no pictures allowed though). The user interface is similar to any mobile phone with a common info bar on top. There are a lot of swipe movement going on to explore the interface.

You might have guessed it already, there are about 20 Google applications preinstalled, including YouTube, Gmail and Google Maps. Of course you can have more than one open at the same time but background apps are 'frozen' to conserve energy.

Google has also announced that it has set aside US$10 million in awards for developers who submit their apps for the platform.

ZTE concept devices

Image If you are wondering how our phones might look like in the future, the ZTE Joy collection is a good example. Protected in a glass case, from our prying hands, the Joy 2 comes with a flexible form factor to fit your face contours and also a 1.3 megapixel camera.

The Joy 3 also comes with a comfortable clamshell design that is supposed to evoke a cozy feeling when using the phone and the Super W has a dual screen layer with its touch sensitive front panel.

Aside from the design, we actually would love to see more cool features added.

WiMAX gaming

Image Portable gaming is getting mainstream and it is no surprise when Flyvo announced their WiMAX gaming device.

The Flyvo G100 is equipped with a 4 inch touchscreen and powered by Windows CE Professional 5.0. It has WiMAX, WiFi and Bluetooth to support multiplayer gaming and online gaming. As for its memory space, it has a built-in 4GB and a microSDHC card slot. However it is programmed not to install any Windows Mobile apps.

As usual the Koreans will be getting their hands on this device from December onwards and US in Q2 09. The rest of Asia will just have to wait for a specific launch date to be announced much later.

Coolpad unveiled

Frequent flyers often complain having more devices in their pockets than most. Traveling back and forth between CDMA and GSM enabled countries will need you to have at least 2 phones.

Coolpad should solve your problem as it has a dual SIM slot that switches between CDMA and GSM networks effortlessly. It claims to be the first in the world to do this. At the moment it is available in Indonesia, China and Africa.

Noahpad made a showing

UMPC has gained momentum again with the success of the ASUS Eee PC and Noahpad is yet another UMPC which was spotted in CommunicAsia. It was used to present the Garmin navigation software.

It has a unique QWERTY keyboard and a 180 degrees 7 inch screen. It is powered on a VIA C7 1.0GHz processor and has WiFi, webcam and a 1.8 inch HDD.
