Image On Monday the city of KL took part in the historical Olympic Torch Relay with 80 selected torchbearers carrying the Olympic Torch from Dataran Merdeka to Suria KLCC. It covers a distance of 16.5 kilometers. This was the second time since 1964 for the Olympic torch passed through Malaysia where Malaysians witnessed the most prestigious sporting symbol up-close.

The Beijing Olympic Torch Relay has the longest route in the Olympic Torch Relay history, involving 21,880 torchbearers who will cover a total distance of 137,000 km in 130 days. Samsung, a Worldwide Presenting Partner of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, had recruited approximately 1,500 torchbearers from all around the world.

The Samsung Malaysia Electronics (SME) Sdn Bhd torchbearers line up consist of four role models who were chosen for their notable contributions to society and their tenacity to overcome challenges in their lives to achieve success in their respective fields. They are Yang Bahagia Datin Paduka Sharifah Mazlina Syed Abdul Kadir, Ras Adiba Radzi, Nicol Ann David and Lee Chong Wei.

“Samsung is thrilled and honored to have had all our torchbearers who truly reflect the Olympic value and represent what the Olympic Games are all about,” said Mr. Min Yong Ho, managing director and CEO of Samsung Malaysia Electronics (SME) Sdn Bhd.
