I will be contributing my rants on gaming as well from now on other than my usual section, Soft Approach that focuses on mobile software. Alright, enough introductions already, let’s get the trigger finger ready for some action. First on the list is a little “pressie”; a free game. Visit http://www.boomslangstudios.com to get your free copy of CHEEZ!
CHEEZ
CHEEZ works on both S60 and UIQ mobile phones. A list of the devices supported can be found at above website but the list is somewhat out of date. So even if you have one of the latest Symbian model, just fire the download straight away to get .sis (Symbian Installation Source) file.
Player will take the role of a mouse named OonDir (what a funny name) which has a deep craving for cheese. So it is pretty obvious that the objective of the game is to gather as much cheese as possible. But life is not a bed of roses, not even in a game. The guardians of the maze are a zealous lot, and they will hamper the players’ progress at every step! Each world has two distinct types of enemies for players to tackle, and they increase in number as one progresses. In each maze, the player is given 2 minutes to gobble up cheese and vanquish enemies. When time is about to run out, a magical warp will open that will take OonDir to the next maze. Ignore it at your own peril!
After a few rounds when you get bored with the game’s AI, you can launch a multiplayer game and challenge your friend to a duel over Bluetooth to see who is the better mouse. All in all, CHEEZ is quite entertaining, reminding me of PAC-MAN. The graphic and controls are mediocre but since the developers are giving it for free, we shouldn’t be too critical. Do try it out and indulge yourself in the world of cheese!
TopGun Navy Strike Fighter Tactics
The next game on my “free for” all game list is TopGun Navy Strike Fighter Tactics developed by il Padrino group. A lengthy and geeky name really kills some of the excitement but trust me, once you log on to their home page at http://www.topgun-game.prv.pl; my oh my, you will be in for a surprise! Although it says that the il Padrino group only developed the game during their free time, the homepage, user guide, game engine and graphic look astonishing! I wouldn’t mind if they do charge a bit for the game. If any of you readers do feel the same way, feel free to make some donations to them. I’m sure this will encourage them to come up with more free cool stuffs!
TopGun as its name implies is a shoot-them-up aeroplane game. You act as a top notch pilot fending off alien invaders. Well, the enemy does not look alien to me but it doesn’t matter. Hordes of them came and I was more than happy to pulverize them! There are up to five different combat locations including desert, metropolitan area, ocean, Siberia and Alien’s home planet.
Despite being a great game, TopGun isn’t perfect. Shortcomings include limitation of game play varieties. There is only one firing button and no bombs or fancy power ups are available to aid you throughout the mission. Besides that, unlike CHEEZ this is a solo mission, so you cannot link up with your buddy to gun down the alien crafts. The game is only available for the Symbian S60 platform. But all in all, one can’t really complain as the game is a freeware.
So there you have it, two free games to help you pass through the last month of 2007. Well, you’ll probably finish them in a week. Either way, enjoy!
