Image After quitting his job in an IT firm, he was very close to spending the rest of his life in a robotics research lab had not the economic meltdown happened in 1997. Now his bubbly and chatty persona lights up NTV7 early in the morning. MW pulls him from the couch of The Breakfast Show and plonked him onto ours.

What kind of phone do you own?
Currently I’m using the HTC Touch.

What do you like about it?

It’s slim and small. Plus the sliding interface and the transcriber are easy to use. It hasn’t hanged even once on me; the only thing is that 3G is missing.

What other gadgets do you own?
Do RC helicopters count? I also have an iPod.

What is the most abused function in your phone?
Definitely emails.

Any mishaps happened to any of your phones?
Once! I lost my phone and pray to God that will never ever happen again.

How important is your mobile phone?
It is very important. Because I manage myself, the phone is the only thing keeping me in contact with everyone else, just an extension of myself.

Who’s on your speed dial?

My family and girlfriend.

Are you into mobile games?
The HTC Touch has a game called Bubble Breaker. It is addictive in a fun way. When you get a lot of bubbles to break, it is a syok feeling.

How many contacts do you have in your phone book?
Well over a thousand!

Do you MMS?
It is usually situational. For example, if a friend is feeling sad then I’ll just MMS over my funny face.

Are you into downloading mobile content?
Usually my friends share their stuff with me via Bluetooth. It can be songs, documents and pictures.

What ring tones do you use?
I’m quite old school. For calls, it’s the Knight Rider soundtrack and for SMS it is the Transformers theme.

How did you get started in the entertainment industry?
(laughs) I was having lunch in KFC and someone came over and invited me for a screen test. I said, “no way!” and she left me her card. Since I just quit my job then, I went in for a test and the next Monday, I’m hosting the Kelab Disney Malaysia.

How did you get involved with The Breakfast Show?
To put it simply, I was doing my old boss a favour. I have never done a live talk show before.

What is challenging about it?
We arrive one and a half hours earlier to prep because there is no script. We read as much as possible from tech, fashion, politics, sports, med and even home deco. It used to be a 5 days per week. I was never a morning person so after a while it was tiring but I got used to it. Right now, it is only 3 days per week for me.

Image What other projects are you involved in?
Right now I’m also shooting a local Malay-English drama and will soon have a stint on a local English station.

Of the many places you travel for work, which one do you like the most?
I went to Australia for a one month for work and I love the place. It turns out we are not so different after all.

What do you look forward to do in the future?

I can’t be a talent forever so I look forward to become a producer or a director one day. At the moment I’m still learning the ins and outs.

How is it like being successful?
Nah, I’m not successful. I’m successful when I can cancel a Board of Directors meeting on a whim to spend time with my family.

Lastly, how do you spend your free time?
Free time??? I live in my car (laughs). I hardly get any but when I do it’s spending time with my family and sleeping a lot.
