Mobile Learning is a platform for delivering education via mobile
phone, gadgets and PDAs using technologies like SMS, WAP, GPRS and 3G.
“Courseware delivered on mobile phones will be delivered in
small modules for two to three minutes study” said LTT Global Communication
Managing Director Mr.Wemel Cumavoo.
“The new medium of delivering education is not meant to
replace the education system but to complement it,” he continued.
Mr. Wemel said students can use Mobile Learning during free
time like while waiting for a bus and this can save a lot time using it.
“So far, we deliver time tables, exam and general
information and announcements to students and lecturer via mobile phones,” said
Open University vice-chancelor, Profesor Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Anuwar Ali. “We’re
still into working out the pedagogy to make the five minute course snippets
effective, with links to websites, much like the synopses of films.”
Informatics showcased its Mobile Learning Programme during
the event. The programme provides student with an MP4 player that enables the
student to view downloaded course syllabus, Microsoft documents, listen and
watch lectures and all related multimedia content on the go like in a live
session.
“We’re targeting it at the telco, banking and education
industries and walk-in individuals,” said James Tia Ju Wen, Informatics
recruitment officer.
Courses being offered currently include Information
Technology, Gaming & Animation Technology, Network & Cybersecurity and
Business Administration.
GreenPacket SONaccess Education solution allows students,
lecturers and faculty members to communicate anytime, anywhere.
“The campus SONaccess system automatically diverts calls
made to their fixed extensions to their mobile phones without students knowing
their mobile number,” said Green packet product engineer, Kwan Liang Yeow.
NGT Solution is offering its Managed Content Transcoding
Services as a solution for Content Providers to offer their contents across
different network and technologies without worrying about the formats and the
receiving devices.
LTT Global has been researching Mobile Learning for the past
three and half years. It aims to attract the Public Sector, Academia, IT and
Telecom Companies, to make Mobile Learning a success. It is a company under the
