His phone brand had some of the hottest offerings at CommunicAsia 2007. MW caught up with the General Manager
of Sony Ericsson Malaysia at the sidelines of the exhibition
When did you join SE and where did you work before that?
I joined SE back in November 2002 and prior to Sony Ericsson, I was attached to Nokia Mobile Phones.
What is your role at Sony Ericsson Bhd?
I am the General Manager responsible for the overall performance of the market unit.
What is the best thing you like about your job?
It is truly exciting to be involved in the telecommunication industry and see how much it has evolved since the early 90’s. More importantly; I am looking forward to the exciting changes yet to come in the near future.
What are the challenges you face in your job?
It’s a fast paced sector. The industry is constantly changing, and at a very rapid pace. We need to constantly keep abreast of the changes and overcome obstacles and challenges to remain competitive.
What hand phone are you using currently? How often do you change your mobile phone?
Due to the nature of my job responsibility, I need to constantly test the latest products and therefore I change my phone very frequently. Currently I am using the W910i.
Sony Ericsson are displaying their exciting Bluetooth watches at CommunicAsia. Why did they come up with these watches?
Bluetooth technology is predominantly perceived as a headset device. With the Sony Ericsson Bluetooth watch, it demonstrates a different usage option such as our earlier Bluetooth Car 100.
In a few brief words, tell us why someone should buy a Sony Ericsson mobile phone.
It is a young and vibrant brand with unique features and innovative design. We have won numerous awards over the past few years particularly for our imaging and music phones namely the K800i for the 3GSM best phone award and the W800i for innovation, design and engineering.
When you travel, how do you keep in touch with your family?
I keep in touch through voice calls if the country does not have 3G coverage and video calls if they do.
Outside of work, what are your interests and hobbies and how do you like spending your leisure time?
My interest includes reading, movies and music and as for my leisure time, I like to spend quality time with my family.
What do you see as the future of 3G and its evolutions?
As with all new technologies, it will take a while for 3G to take off and with the local operators introducing 3.5G, we see that it will continue to grow and evolve.
Which mobile services are you most excited about – the ones you think will become a killer application?
Push email and mobile entertainment.
