Miss Astro Chinese International 2004, Jolene Chin, is all set to buy a new phone but she’s undecided on whether to get a Pocket PC or a standalone phone and PDA. Jolene, who was also crowned Miss Friendship and Miss Elegant in the same Astro pageant, is a busy lady these days and she desperately needs a handheld organizer to manage her time.

MW: What phone are you using?
JC: Motorola V868

MW: Why that model?
JC: I got pick-pocketed when I came back from Australia and my aunt gave me this phone. I’ve been using it for a year now.

MW: How did you get pick-pocketed?
JC: I was shopping in 1 Utama at the time. I was in a shop and some daring person obviously managed to grab the phone from my bag. I don’t know how they did it.

MW: What phone did you lose?
JC: It was a Nokia 8310. I love that phone! I had it for two or three years. I used to take the public transport in Australia and would listen to the (integrated) radio on the phone.

MW: What type of music are you into?

JC: I’m into all kinds. R&B. Acid Jazz, Progressive.

MW: No Rock ‘N’ Roll?
JC: Not really Rock ‘N’ Roll but I like Alternative Rock and Grunge. Nirvana is cool.

MW: So what else did you lose besides your source of mobile music?
JC: Well, all my work contacts were in the phone, all my personal contacts too.

MW: No back up?
JC: Unfortunately no, so some of the contacts are lost forever. I managed to recover maybe only half of my work contacts. Personal contacts were easier to get back.

MW: Are you gonna upgrade to another phone soon?
JC: Yeah, it’s high time for a change. I want to get a new phone.

MW: What’s your dream phone?
JC: I’m considering getting a Pocket PC but I might also get a standalone PDA. I really need something that allows me to keep track of my schedule.

MW: Which one are you inclined towards right now?
JC: Well, the Pocket PC is an all-in-one combo that allows me to manage my schedule and e-mail. But they tend to be so bulky, so I’m not sure yet.

MW: Would you consider getting a 3G phone?
JC: No, I don’t think 3G is stable yet. I’ll wait a while for that.

MW: You obviously love music; do you have an MP3 player?
JC: Actually I don’t. I used to listen to music on my phone. But I’d like to get an iPod nano. In my line of work, I have to wait around a lot… waiting for photo shoots to begin etc… That’s when a music player or a book comes in handy.

MW: What book are you currently reading?

JC: Working Women’s Art of War by Chin-Ning Chu.

MW: Wow, sounds militaristic. Are you a female libber?
JC: This book is basically saying, don’t underestimate women. We can do just as well as men. But it’s not anti-men. It was given to me by a really good friend. I’m really into motivational and inspirational books.

MW:  What kind of work are you doing these days?
JC: After winning the pageant (Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant), I’ve been doing some fashion shoots, catwalk modelling, acting in short dramas for TV and also a project on child abuse, training as a counsellor to help these children. I’m also the PR director for Kiwanis Sri Hartamas. So, I’ve been quite busy.

MW: So, what kind of career do you see for yourself?
JC: For the moment, I’m going to continue doing hosting and emceeing work. I’d like to learn more about PR and advertising. Eventually work towards setting up my own business someday… but I don’t know what yet. I’m only 25 so I’m not dead set on anything in particular.

MW: Do you use the Internet a lot?
JC:  I used to. My laptop was my life. When I was studying in Australia, the computer was online 24/7.

MW: What did you do?

JC: Mainly chatting and keeping in touch with people. Online was the cheapest way to do it. I also used it for research for my assignments, of course!

MW: So, you still use the Internet a lot?
JC: Actually not at all because of my busy schedule. If I get my new Pocket PC that would change, of course!
