Esstelle Jane Chong completed her chambering and was called to the bar in April. But instead of practicing law, she decided to dive headlong into the world of entertainment.

“I want to give modeling a try,” she says. “I’m 25 and not getting any younger. Law will always be there for me to fall back on, but when I’m 30, I won’t be able to model anymore. So now is my time.”

Besides modeling, Esstelle also hosts a segment on Femme, a fashion and beauty show which appears on RTM1 every Saturday at 1.30 pm. She’s also a good dancer and recently choreographed the opening act for a Proton rally event.

Since modeling gigs can often be few and far in between, Esstelle takes on promotion jobs to help pay the bills. “Certain promotion jobs that require you to wear sexy outfits pay very, very well,” she says. These include car shows, racing events and IT gadget fairs. “I used to be uncomfortable with that but now I’m okay with it. My parents still aren’t though!”

For sure, Esstelle is no shrinking violet. For her fifth professional photoshoot, she posed in a golden bikini and posted some of the images on her blog (www.esstelle.blogspot.com ).

Her set goal is to appear as a lead in a TV commercial, especially a shampoo commercial as she is proud of her long, silky hair. “Everything I do is basically geared towards reaching this target,” she says.

Estelle’s phone is the super tiny Panasonic GD55. It’s a rather old phone with only basic functions but that’s how she likes it. “I SMS quite a bit but I actually prefer talking on the phone,” she says. “Too many people communicate via e-mail, instant messenger and SMS and not talk anymore.”
So, she doesn’t crave a new phone. The mobile device she would really like to get is a laptop computer. “Maybe when I get more modeling jobs, I’ll be able to get one,” she says. “It would be so convenient for me to have one.”
