The Malaysian chapter of the International Association of Software Architects (IASA, www.isahome.org) will hold a regional IT Architect Symposium 2007 at the Legend Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on 25 and 25 April.

Software architecture is an art for software development which combines a collection of best of best practices in software development to ensure successful and satisfactory completion of software implementation projects.

“Gartner estimates 70% of software projects fail, meaning that they are behind schedule, over cost and as a result cut back on specified features or the end-users find the software unusable. The percentage of failure is higher for Malaysia” said IASA Malaysia chairman, Aaron Tan Dani.

Unlike programmers who merely write technically good software, software architects look at all aspects of its implementation and use within a real-world of communications infrastructure, ease of use, proper alignment with business processes, availability of technically skilled people, local regulations, national and even office politics.

The association aims to provide a list of 250 definitions or subjects by the world’s top software architects for members to master.

Seminar topics include the following

  • organising business with strategic architecture
  • creating sound business value of enterprise architecture
  • agile strategies for enterprise architects
  • architectural guidance and issues of software as a service
  • rethinking information architecture
  • fundamentals of software architecture
  • end-to-end seamless software architecture.

Key speakers will include Grady Brooch who invented UML, Scott Ambler who founded Agile Modelling, Paul Preiss president of IASA, George Wang chief architect of Reuters, Taib Lokman chief architect of SAP, Sunil Dutt Jha architect and CEO of iCMG and Dr. Dzaharudin Mansor Microsoft national technology officer.

The event is backed by the Multimedia Development Corporation and key IT industry partners.
