Christien is best known for co-hosting and producing the popular television show Christien Lavin, Celebrities’ Secret Talk Show with his wife. Lavin has extensive experience as an actress and model, and has been featured in numerous productions in Hong Kong. Lavin is also an accomplished singer.

What phones do you have?
C: Motorola A1000.
L: Nokia n73.  

Why those models?
C: I like the A1000 because I need a PDA, so might as well get something that’s a hybrid phone and PDA.
L: I like it because of the 3.2 megapixels camera with Carl Zeiss optics. It’s so clear that I don’t need my digital camera anymore. It can even print quality photos up to 10 x 8. It also comes with an auto focus that reduces movement distortions and a mechanical shutter. And, not forgetting, the 2.4” screen. You gotta try it to believe it. It even has some kinda colour touch up after you take the photos. As you know, we all need touch up lah.  

What do you think of 3G?
C: It’s no big deal in countries like Japan but for Malaysia it may still take sometime due to the cost factor but when the cost is lower, it will become as common as Caller ID.
L: I agree. I don’t use 3G much at the moment.  

What are the main functions you use?
C: Video calls are great, just that usually others do not have such 3G phones so I can’t use it much. L: SMS is the most common thing for me.

What other mobile gadgets do you have?
L: I own a 5.0 megapixel camera but I don’t use it much anymore because the camera on my phone is good enough.
C: I own a HP Pavilion dv1616 notebook. Very cool, very cutting edge.

Would you describe your lifestyles as mobile?
C: Absolutely, we are always on the move a lot, be it for a business presentation, a photo shoot or acting in a drama or doing our own talk show.
L: Yeah, given our lifestyle, having the right gadgets is not just a good idea but a must-have for us.  

What would happen if you had to do without a mobile phone for one week?
L: The last time I lost my phone, I was so lost. All my contacts are in my phone, so when I lost it, I was contactless for a while. Now, I’ve learnt my lesson and I sync my phone to the computer so there’s back up.
C: Basically, it’d be like loosing a leg… actually like losing two legs, for me anyway.

Your phone bills must be super high!
L: Yeah, it is very high…
C: … But we are lucky because of our celebrity status, we get our phone bills sponsored. So, I can call as much as I want!

What type of level are we talking about?
C: I’m not kidding, maybe RM500 per week.

Do you use the Internet a lot?
C: Well besides making lots of calls daily, the other thing I do is check e-mails regularly. We get so many e-mails from the fans of our show. L: We try to reply to each and one of them but it’s hard when you’re dealing with thousands of e-mails. So, yeah, we do spend a lot of time online.
