Dark attraction
The desirable and 'delectable' Chocolate from LG Mobile!
Meet LG Mobile’s latest slider phone, the KG800. It certainly takes the cake for being one of the most unique phones so far this year. We take off the wrappings to get a taste of it.
Design
Like a bar of delicious confectionary, the LG Mobile KG800 – also known as Chocolate – is a sexy little slider phone. Nothing in its overall look would suggest that this was a mobile phone. With the slider closed, it looks more like a fashionable MP3 player.
One of the main things you’d notice about the KG800 is the slim design. Most slider phones are bulky, and yet LG Mobile managed to make the KG800 as slim as a bar of chocolate. Aside from being small, it’s also lightweight and easy to carry around inside your pocket. The phone sports an ‘intenna’ design, and it didn’t compromise the KG800’s signal reception at all.
The semi-automated slider mechanism feels smooth to operate, either when you’re answering or disconnecting calls. The coat of reflective paint adds to the attractiveness of the Chocolate phone – though it does attract fingerprints too.
The Chocolate phone comes with state of the touch-sensitive navigational buttons. I felt the keys are really good for navigation and was ‘painless’ to use. The numeric keys are easy to press. The ‘End Call’ button is incorporated with the ‘Power On/Off’ button, which is located on the phone’s panel on the right side.
Features
The TFT screen on the KG800 is one of the most vivid 262K-colour displays I’ve came across, though it’s a little small in proportion to some other phones. Still, I find the screen’s capability of displaying images and colours in very sharp contrast an added plus.
There’s also a digital camera attached to the KG800, which can be activated when the slider’s popped open. Its highest image resolution is 1280 x 960 pixels, which is equivalent to 1.3-megapixel. You can also tweak other camera functions such as brightness, white balance and image quality.
Taking pictures with the camera produces impressive images; the KG800’s hi-res screen augmented the quality of displayed images considerably well. Other than that, you can use the camera to record videos. You can set the length of the video to as short as 1 minute or to the maximum capacity of the available free storage space the phone has to offer
Extras
The KG800’s wireless connectivity includes infrared and Bluetooth. Other than using Bluetooth for wireless hands-free transmission, users are able to connect to other Bluetooth phones and share files, including photos, video clips and music tracks.
The MP3 format is supported by the KG800, which allows either music playback or setting as ring tones. The phone comes with 128MB of internal memory. For a full-length MP3 track encoded with the standard setting, users are able to store up to 40 of them (assuming each one is 3 minutes long). The sound output on the loudspeaker is excellent.
The K800 comes with one mobile Java game, which is called ‘Zoo Zoo Club’. It plays a bit like ‘Bejeweled’, but instead of switching jewels to form a line of three similar gems to ‘dispose’ them you have faces of cute zoo animals.
Overview
LG Mobile’s offerings have been a delightful surprise this year. The KG800 is no exception. There are a load of great features implemented on this phone, so if you are into fashion phones, this one will be sure to delight you.
