YouTube.com the next Google for Videos

I have been catching a few videos on YouTube.com, laughing myself silly to the antiques of “Hard Gay” from Japan and Russell Peters from US. I have never thought I could find such humorous videos on a free site and guess what, here goes my early nights as I stay up watching Conan O’Brien and Saturday Night Life which were never aired on Malaysian television. So, how did I react to the news of YouTube buying every music video available on planet Earth? Ecstatic of course. Now, I would not need to go to the various portals like Yahoo Launch, Virgin Records, MTV and ChannelV or the singers official websites to listen to their latest music videos. However, some raise concerns that they might start charging for subscriptions. Hey, it’s not cheap to get the rights as well as to pay the royalties of the music videos ok.

So, the worry now is how is YouTube.com, a free video website going to pay RIAA and other record companies? The amount they are getting from advertising is definitely insufficient to give everyone a piece of their pie.Shouldn’t people see this more as an opportunity than a threat? Among them, promoting the videos on YouTube.com with a link to the original site or official site so as to generate higher traffic. One cannot deny that YouTube.com would have had a far larger traffic than MTV or ChannelV added together. Plus, the music videos can be linked to various spoofs made by people with nothing better to do, eg, the spoof of Jessica Simpson’s new song: Public Affair. Also, wouldn’t there be potential for people to start making their own videos to advertise their products or services during the intermissions of the music video? This could be the alpha grail of advertising in which you can see porn mix with any types of products you can think of.Next in line, would they source for all videos for movie previews? I am pretty sure YouTube.com is now aiming to be the next Google for videos. Who would not want that? As long as it remains FREE!
