Dato’ Seri Lim Keng Yaik has come out and openly said that DiGi was denied the license because it was a foreign company and preference was given to local companies.

Despite initial disbelief, a scenario seen most unlikely be almost everyone has come true. Two upstarts have upstaged DiGi and ended up with 3G licenses.
This episode made international news. All reports echo what I had said in my previous articles on the subject: that DiGi was a certainty for the license.

Celcom has halved the price of their prepaid starter packs to RM4.99.
However these starter packs will only be available at Air Asia counters as these packs are co-branded with the low cost airline.
Still, that’s the lowest prepaid starter price currently in Malaysia. Any lower and the telcos will be giving them out free.

DiGi has released a press statement saying that they have had no OFFICIAL communication from MCMC.
Morten Lundal says that they are “extremely surprised by such a decision” and that they are seeking urgent clarification.
For the record, Mobile World magazine normally gets all MCMC press releases and we too have got nothing official on this [...]

In what must be one of the bigest shock MCMC has produced to date, DiGi has been denied a 3G license.
Instead the MCMC has awarded 3G licenses to MiTV Corporation and TTDotcom. To put it all in relevance, you should know that both TTDotcom and MITV are not operating cellular networks at the moment. [...]
