Nokia has announced that it has to date shipped the 1.5 billionth phone; running on the S40 Symbian Operating System (OS) BBC News reported.
S40 phones started to roll out in 1999 and for many years was the reason for Nokia's leading world market share for phones. Even with the upcoming new phones utilising newer versions of Symbian and Windows Phone 7.5 OSes, the S40 OS is still alive and kicking in Nokia's feature phones.
These phones offer a lot of functionality but in most cases do not have the processor muscle as their smartphone siblings.
