LG Optimus 3D

LG Electronics yesterday launched the LG Optimus 3D - what it claims to be an innovative new Android smartphone featuring a second generation dual-core, dual-channel technology and utilising what LG has dubbed 'tri-dual' architecture. So besides giving you a 3D experience without the need of special nerdy glasses, you have under the hood what is essentially a very powerful beast of a machine - if the claims hold up; even faster than the usual dual-core offerings out there.
Set to retail for RM2,199, it has a 4.3-inch WVGA display and flicker-free for HD up to 1080p in 2D and 720p in 3D. It also supports DLNA. It also features, LG claims, to be the first 3D augmented reality browser in collaboration with Wikitude. The browser is aavilable from LGworld.com.
Need for speed
The LG Optimus 3D's speed is enhanced by making the fullest use as possible (at this time) of a dual-core, dual-channel memory configuration. We're not in Kansas anymore, talking about the clockspeeds of hurricanes - the Wizards of LG have devised a rather clever way to max out the architecture: phones with faster dual-core clockspeeds suffer through inefficiency due to the bottleneck caused by having a single-channel memory architecture.
Data transfers on this new one from LG, happen simultaneously between the dual-core processors and dual-channeled memory. Think of it as being two roads leading to two places; instead of just one road going to two places. The result, LG claims, is smoother GUI, faster, better multitasking, browsing, gaming and multimedia. Kewl.
Back to the 3D stuff
LG intends to make the novelty of 3D on a small screen to be more practical. 3D recording on the Optimus 3D is easily shared and viewed. It includes features such as high 3D quality content capability and 3D video stabilisation technology and a first time heard: real-time misalignment correction algorithm. What the fancy algorithm does is that it automatically corrects the shaking during recording. The wide viewing angle makes watching videos and movies much more convenient.
The Optimus 3D comes with 20  3D videos (10 preloaded, 10 downloaded for free from LG). There's also special software whichallows for real-time conversion of 2D photos to 3D. Free software for converting 2D games into 3D will be available year end from LG. Captured 3D content can also be shared on the big screen 3D TV via HDMI 1.4 connector.
Games! There are 11 3D games for each of these phones. The full versions preloaded are from Gameloft: Asphalt 6, N.O.V.A. and Let's Golf! 2. The other 7 are downloadable for free. Until 31, October 2011 seven more games will be available for half-price.
