Research in Motion (RIM) have launched the two newest BlackBerry models in Malaysia. Both second-generation models; the Bold 9700 and the Storm 2 are retailing for RM2500 and RM2700 respectively. Stocks of the Bold 9700 are immediately available, whilst the Storm 2 will be released to the public in February.

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 runs on a 624MHz CPU, 256MB Flash memory, trackpad and its signature full QWERTY keyboard, whilst the Storm 2 is a full touch-screen smartphone that employs a larger screen (3.25") than the Bold 9700 (2.44"). The Bold 9700 is also expected to support 32GB microSD cards when the cards will be made available to the public.

When asked about the apparent popularity of Google's Nexus One, and how the Blackberry would fare against it, Gregory Wade, RIM's Managing Director of Southeast Asia appeared calm, mentioning that customers were more likely to gravitate towards the Blackberry.

In response to a question concerning the availability of Blackberry's online application store -App World- in Malaysia, Wade answered that RIM was not ready to share information regarding its app store just yet. It is confirmed that these two models will be available from Celcom and Maxis. There is no confirmation at time of writing whether DiGi will distribute these models.

According to RIM, the company sold its 75th million BlackBerry in 2009, and celebrated both the company's 25th year anniversary, as well as the 10 years of the BlackBerry's presence in the global market.
