PROTON AND YES collaborate to bring MALAYSIA’S First 4G INTERNET CARS

Proton and YES are collaborating to make high-speed mobile 4G connectivity a standard feature in future new Proton models.

A new value-added standard feature will be added to new Proton models, especially with the soon-to-be launched sedan, the P3-21A.  It will utilise Yes 4G mobile Internet network.

Drivers can connect up to 5 mobile devices to the car’s micro wireless network. In the future, PROTON and Yes will offer drivers smart applications like remote real-time vehicle diagnostics, security and location-based services.

To mark this collaboration, Yes and PROTON are giving away a special edition Yes 4G Internet enabled Proton Inspira worth RM100,000 as the main prize in the ‘Win Malaysia’s First 4G Internet Car’ Facebook contest. 

This customised Proton Inspira has a special paint job and limited edition 18-inch rims. It also has three units of Apple iPad 2 and a Yes Huddle 4G wireless mobile router  mounted on engineered fixtures in the vehicle.  

The ‘Win Malaysia’s First 4G Internet Car’ contest starts from 22 February 2012, and will run till 27 March 2012.

BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 out now

RIM has released the latest OS for the BlackBerry PlayBook version 2.0, available for download now.

The new features are:
Integrated email client with a unified inbox: Users may use a  unified inbox for all personal and work emails and messages in one place, including messages from Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

Social Integration with Calendar and Contacts apps:  The built-in calendar retrieves information from social networks and populate contact cards with updated information from Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to create a consolidated view of contacts.

Updated BlackBerry Bridge app: to Bluetooth connect between BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry smartphone (including BBM, Email, Contacts, Calendar and Browser) and display documents, web pages, emails and photos from BlackBerry smartphone on BlackBerry PlayBook. There is a new remote control feature that turns the BlackBerry smartphone into a wireless keyboard and mouse for a BlackBerry PlayBook. 

Improved mobile productivity: Updated document editing functions, the new Print To Go app, and increased control and manageability of corporate data with BlackBerry Balance, together with an updated virtual keyboard with auto correction and predictive next word completion.

Thousands of new apps and content are added to BlackBerry App World. A new BlackBerry Video Store has also being launched. 

The browser has enhanced web browsing.

RIM is also releasing BlackBerry Mobile Fusion for an enterprise to manage BlackBerry PlayBook tablets and BlackBerry smartphones. The full release will be in late March 2012.

If you have a PlayBook, you can now download the shooting game Plants vs Zombies by PopCap Games & EA Games.

In your PlayBook just open up BlackBerry App World and type in a search.

Just prepare to enter your credit card number as the app costs RM11.75.

Norton Safety Minder: Mobile Edition keeps kids safe

Norton by Symantec has released a free app Norton Safety Minder: Mobile Edition that keeps an eye on kids’ smartphone activities.  

The tools in this application, which is part of Norton Online Family, teach kids safe and age-appropriate digital habits on their mobile devices.

The parents use their Norton Online Family account to set filter settings to monitor and block harmful sites.  They can also apply this on the child's PC. The service tracks up to seven days of content for free.

The parents can use the same account to manage the “House Rules” on more than a dozen devices at the onlinefamily.norton.com website at no charge.

Petronas unveil mobile application for iPhone

For the coming Chinese New Year, PETRONAS Dagangan (PDB) is launching the 2012 PETRONAS Coffee Break Campaign and the PETRONAS PitStop iPhone app.

The app can locate more than 900 PETRONAS stations nationwide. Users would be able to monitor fuelling expenses and Mesra membership points, receive latest updates on ongoing promotions and connect to PDB's Mesralink customer service.

The app can be downloaded from the App Store for free. Plans are underway for an Android version in several months time.
